An A&M student is accused of assaulting his girlfriend and a bystander who was trying to stop the attack.

University Police was sent early Tuesday morning to Gainer Residence Hall where the bystander told officers he was slammed against the wall and held by his throat.

The bystander was among several people who heard the woman say she wanted out of the boyfriend’s dorm room.

The woman, who was found in the parking lot of the College Station Wal-Mart, says her boyfriend of four years placed his loaded semi-automatic pistol on his desk then held a t-shirt over her mouth and nose.

The woman also said there was a violent encounter prior to the incident in the dorm.

20 year old Stephen Vaneau was arrested for family assault and unlawful restraint of the girlfriend, assault causing bodily injury of the bystander, and possessing a weapon on campus.
