A&M Woman’s Golf Headed to NCAA Division I Golf West Regional

INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 27 Texas A&M women’s golf team was selected to the 2013 NCAA Division I Women’s Golf wEst Regional where it will compete for a berth in the NCAA Championship, the NCAA announced on Monday.

Regional play will be conducted May 9-11 at three sites. The West Regional will be played at the Stanford Golf Course in Stanford, Ca., the Central Regional at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club in Norman, Okla., and the East Regional at the Auburn University Club in Auburn, Ala.

The top eight teams and two individuals advance from each regional to the NCAA Championship which is held May 21-24 at the University of Georgia Golf Course in Athens, Ga., and is hosted by University of Georgia.

“We are very excited about the West selection and going back to Stanford,” A&M head coach Trelle McCombs said. “The course is beautiful and the people there are great. Only one player on our roster has seen the course, Sarah Beth Davis, but the last time we were out there we had good luck so I feel pretty good about the selection.”

The Aggies were one of 24 teams sent to the West Regional and were seeded eighth behind No. 1 Southern California, No. 5 Arizona, No. 8 Vanderbilt, No. 9 Purdue, No. 11 Stanford, No. 18 Georgia and No. 21 Baylor. The rest of the field includes No. 28 LSU, No. 29 Pepperdine, No. 33 Denver, No. 34 South Carolina, No. No. 40 Florida State, No. 41 Oregon, 44 Ohio State, No. 48 UNLV, No. 50 California, Miami (Fla.), San Jose State, Harvard, Kent State, Northern Arizona, North Dakota State and Long Island.

Additionally, the six individuals were selected to participate in at the West Regionals were Laura Wearn of Furman, Jennifer Coleman of Colorado, Sammi Stevens of New Mexico, A Ram Choi of Portland State and teammates Luciane Lee and Michelle Park of UC Irvine.

Texas A&M makes its 13th straight NCAA Regional appearance and have advanced to the NCAA Championship four of the last five years, including each of the past three seasons. The Aggies were last sent east in 2011 and make just their fourth trip to that regional.
