Rangers’ Harrison to Have Back Surgery

Texas Rangers pitcher Matt Harrison will reportedly undergo surgery on Tuesday to repair a herniated disc in his lower back. He’s expected to be out at least until after the All-Star Break.

Harrison, who started in the season opener against the Houston Astros, was 0-2 on the year with an 8.44 ERA in 10.2 innings. He also struck out 12 while walking seven.

The 27-year-old lefty signed a five-year, $55 million contract with the Rangers during the off-season after winning 18 games and being named to the American League All-Star Team in 2012.
