Stars Trade Jagr, RoySports Tuesday, April 2nd, 2013
BOSTON (AP) _ The Boston Bruins have acquired Jaromir Jagr from the Dallas Stars in an attempt to improve their shaky offense.
The 10th leading goal scorer in NHL history, who leads the Stars in points this season, Jagr was traded Tuesday for two prospects, forwards Lane MacDermid and Cody Payne, and a conditional second-round pick in this year’s draft, the Stars announced.
The deal came five days after the Bruins thought they obtained forward Jarome Iginla from the Calgary Flames, only to learn Iginla had been traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins.
In his first season with the Stars, the 41-year-old Jagr has 14 goals and 26 points. Brad Marchand leads the Bruins with 14 goals and Patrice Bergeron is first with 31 points. Jagr has 679 career goals.
VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) _ The Vancouver Canucks have acquired center Derek Roy from the Dallas Stars to add some much-needed depth at forward.
The Canucks sent defenseman Kevin Connauton and a second-round pick to Dallas. The team confirmed the trade on its website Tuesday.
Vancouver needs scoring with its second line hit hard by injuries. Mason Raymond recently joined Ryan Kesler and David Booth on the injured list with a sore shoulder.
Roy has four goals and 18 assists in 30 games with Dallas this season. He previously spent eight seasons with the Buffalo Sabres, scoring 161 goals with 266 assists in 549 games.
The Ottawa native will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.
Connauton has seven goals, 18 assists and a minus-12 rating in 60 games with the AHL’s Chicago Wolves this season.
