Aggies Keep Top 25 Streak Alive

INDIANAPOLIS—The Texas A&M men’s swimming and diving team finished in the top 25 for the 18thconsecutive year at No. 24 at the 2013 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships at the IU Natatorium on the IUPUI campus.

The Aggies secured their team finish in the final event of the meet placing seventh in the consolation final of the 400 freestyle relay.  The foursome of junior Henrik Lindau, senior John Dalton, senior John Wagner, and junior Kyle Troskot swam an NCAA ‘A’ time standard in morning competition hitting the wall in 2:53.49. The team finished in the final Saturday night in a time of 2:54.65 to earn four more team points. The team swam the second and third fastest times this season in the 400 free relay.

“Its impressive to say we have finished in the top 25 in the country for so many years,” said head coach Jay Holmes. “These seven guys all made a great effort and gave it everything they had.”

In morning competition junior Simon Frank earned an NCAA ‘B’ cut in the 200 backstroke in 1:46.21 finishing third in his heat.  Dalton swam his last individual race also finishing in NCAA ‘B’ cut fashion. Dalton finished the 100 freestyle in 43.05 seconds missing the consolation final by one place to be first alternate.

Over the course of the meet the Aggies made a strong statement in freestyle relays. The team scored 32 points off of the 200, 400, and 800 freestyle relays.  From those three relays there were two NCAA ‘A’ time standards. The 200 freestyle relay was a mere tenth of a second from an NCAA ‘A’ time standard.
