Multiple Agencies Respond to HCL Acid Spill

Highway 21 near Coulter Airfield in Bryan was restricted to one lane of traffic in each direction Friday afternoon due to a spill of hydrochloric acid.

William Bouse of the Bryan Fire Department says the spill was in a containment pond at an oilfield services business on Crosswinds Drive north of 21.

Also responding to the incident was the College Station Fire Department, precincts 2 and 3, and the Brazos County Sheriff’s Office.

Bouse says a reverse 911 call was made to phone numbers within a half-mile of the spill to notify residents and businesspeople of what happened.

A private company conducted the cleanup of the acid, which was in a containment area of the business. Sources say 200 gallons was spilled.

Bouse says the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality will lead the investigation into the incident.
