Another Public Hearing Scheduled for Proposed Private Landfill

Some opponents of a proposed private landfill west of Easterwood Airport will get another chance to speak to state officials.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has scheduled what is called a contested case hearing next month in Bryan.

Officials compare this to a civil trial in district court. The hearing will address the disputed issues of fact and the judge may consider additional issues if certain factors are met.

While anyone can attend the hearing, to qualify as a speaker they must demonstrate how they would be adversely affected by the landfill in a way not common to the general public.

The hearing has been scheduled for April 3rd at 10:30 a.m. in the Brazos County Commission’s meeting room.

Brazos Valley Recycling submitted an application in June 2011 to convert some of its land as a landfill to collect construction debris and demolition materials. Neighboring homeowners, mostly in the Brushy community, are opposed.
