Spring Break Safety Tips From Bryan PD
Featured Stories, News Thursday, March 7th, 2013Spring break is just around the corner, and if you’re planning to head out of town, Bryan Police Officer Kelley McKethan says there are several practical steps you can take to combat would-be thieves.
Never hide a key outside of your residence, McKethan says, and if you leave a vehicle in your driveway, remove all of the garage door openers, because it’s easy for someone to break into your car, open the garage, and get inside your home.
She says it’s important to make it look like someone is still home, so ask a trusted neighbor to pick up your mail and newspapers and occasionally park in your driveway.
She suggests using timers for your television, lights, and radio at times that you’d normally be using them, and always record your serial numbers, just in case somebody does break in.
That way, if your things are stolen, those numbers will help police to track down your property.
