Bryan School Board Delays Action on Next Year’s Calendar
Featured Stories, News Tuesday, February 19th, 2013Something that is normally routine for the Bryan school district, setting next year’s school calendar, remains unresolved.
The school board Monday night postponed a vote and directed staff to get more student opinions about three options.
The most popular choice, with just over half the 1,042 voting in the unscientific survey, favored extending the calendar into the first week of June.
Calendar committee member Barbara Ybarra says the idea of students and staff getting more days off conflicts with the first summer session at A&M and Blinn.
Calendar committee co-chair Karen Kaspar says they discussed what was approved in College Station. The Bryan committee was opposed to staff working on Saturdays and incorporating half-day class sessions.
Kaspar and Ybarra say the committee will consider how they will collect student feedback and they would consider contacting students at all grade levels.
