College Station City Council to Discuss Paying the Mayor

College Station voters may be deciding in a couple of years whether to give the mayor a salary.

Councilman Karl Mooney raised the idea Thursday night as part of a broader discussion of what will be the responsibilities of the elected body when the city’s population tops 100,000.

Mayor Nancy Berry says setting a salary should require voter approval through changing the city charter, which can’t be done for two years because of a charter vote last November.

According to the city’s latest demographic report (see page 24), College Station’s population will enter the six digits in 2015.
