CS Conference Center is Permanently Closed
Featured Stories, News Wednesday, February 6th, 2013The College Station Conference Center will not reopen.
The city council at its recent retreat decided to sell the property, where the school district has the first option.
Mayor Nancy Berry says it was a financial decision. The council learned the cost of structural repairs and making the center comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act is at least $1.6 million dollars.
Berry says meeting space will be considered at part of expansions of the Lincoln Center and the Ringer Library, which were approved by voters in 2008.
The conference center, originally built as a school in 1949 and expanded in 1983, was closed last July when it was declared unsafe.
Nancy Berry visits with WTAW’s Bill Oliver.
