Senator Schwertner to Serve Two Year Term
Featured Stories, News Wednesday, January 23rd, 2013It happens once a decade in the Texas Senate…all 31 members finding out if their term expires in two years or four years.
For Charles Schwertner (R-Georgetown), whose district includes Brazos and most surrounding counties, it will be two years.
Each senator went to a large glass bowl at the front of the chamber and drew an envelope.
Each envelope contained a piece of paper numbered 1 to 31. Even numbers meant two year terms and odd numbers four year terms.
The draw includes the currently vacant Houston district previously held by the late Sen. Mario Gallegos, who died shortly before the 2012 general election.
Republicans hold a 19-12 majority in the Senate.
