New QB Coach for A&M

Tex Ag’s reported yesterday…West Virginia quarterbacks coach Jake Spavital was the choice to succeed Kliff Kingsbury in working with Johnny Manziel at Texas A&M. That became official last night and, shortly after that, the former Mountaineer assistant spoke with Bruce Feldman of CBS Sports, confirming the news that he had made the move to Aggieland.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           The 27-year-old Spavital spent the past two seasons as West Virginia’s quarterbacks coach,and said. I’m excited to get to A&M and continue with the success that they’ve had.”  A&M running backs coach Clarence McKinney, who handled play-calling duties in the Cotton Bowl, also is expected to get promoted to the offensive coordinator role.

Prior to coaching quarterback in Morgantown, Spav worked with Brandon Weeden at OSU and Case Keenum at Houston. He has worked for Kevin Sumlin, Kliff Kingsbury, Dana Holgorsen and Mike Gundy.
