Crash Rescuers Include New Aggie Graduate

While Highway 6 was shut down in Bryan last Friday night due to a series of wrecks, a newly graduated Aggie and a friend were busy with a rescue.

Brian Curry is a 14 year Navy vet who was also commissioned at graduation as a Navy ensign. He and Mario Pineda, who is also in the Navy, saw a truck upside down in a creek along the freeway near Briarcrest.

One of Curry’s professors was commanding officer and Marine Colonel Paul Timoney.

According to the A&M News Service, Curry and Pineda were among six people who went into chest-deep water, cut the seatbelt, and dragged the driver up the embankment.

Police say the driver had been underwater for five minutes but was breathing on his own by the time he was transported to the hospital.
