A local animal sanctuary is helping an abused pit bull now housed in the Navasota city shelter.

April Plemons of Long Way Home Sanctuary says they’re looking for a foster home for Bentham, who has wounds common to being a victim of dog fighting.

Plemons says contributions have been received from around the world to assist with Bentham’s medical expenses.

Once a foster home has been found, Plemons says the city will release Bentham to the sanctuary.

The sanctuary started a pit bull rescue operation last year after finding two pit bulls in Wellborn that were used as bait, set on fire, and left to die. Plemons says they have one of the dogs, Esperanza, while at the TAMU clinic saved the other.
