The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Bryan office is alerting motorists in Bryan that the intersection of Briarcrest and Freedom will be closed Friday evening through Monday morning, that access has closed from Verde Drive to FM 2818/Harvey Mitchell Parkway, and the City of Bryan has been awarded state money for improvements at Coulter Field Airport.
Here are the TxDOT news releases:
Beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, October 26, 2012, the Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) contractor will close the intersection of FM 1179 (Briarcrest Drive) and Freedom Boulevard in order to reconstruct the intersection pavement and median. This closure will be in affect from Friday evening until 6:30 a.m. on Monday, October 29, 2012. Motorists who travel this area should expect delays, watch for construction workers and equipment and use extra caution during this closure. Access to Wal-Mart and Chick-fil-a will be available by entering Freedom Boulevard on the south end of Cambridge Drive near Lowe’s and First Baptist Church, from Oak Ridge Drive between Wal-Mart and the High School Football Stadium, and from the front entrance off Briarcrest between Chick-fil-a and the Bryan Recycling Center (near the Wal-Mart gas pumps).Access to Sonic and Taco Cabana will continue to be available by the driveway off Briarcrest. Access to Casa Ole and the Freedom Strip Center will be available from the Sonic/Taco Cabana driveway, the Wells Fargo driveway and the south end of Freedom Boulevard off Cambridge Drive.
The Texas Department of Transportation’s Contractor has initiated a detour for Verde Drive at FM 2818 (Harvey Mitchell Pkwy). Verde Drive will no longer directly access the main lanes of FM 2818. Motorists who wish to access Verde Drive will follow the signed detour and access via Turkey Creek Road and the newly installed FM 2818 East Frontage Road.
Approximately $633,000 for Coulter Field was approved by the Texas Transportation Commission at its October meeting. The funds will be used for planned airport improvements, which includes engineering, design and construction for lighting improvements. A consultant will be selected in the winter. Project costs will be funded through TxDOT’s Aviation Facilities Grant Program, which preserves and improves the state’s general aviation system and the City of Bryan.
