CS Council Approves Medical District Land Use Plan

The first step has been taken to tie the new Scott & White hospital, College Station Medical Center, and neighboring business to future commercial and residential development.

The College Station City Council approved the master plan to proceed with an official medical district.

Blanche Brick made the motion to approve the land use east and west of both hospitals along Rock Prairie and south along both sides of the Rudder Freeway.

Karl Mooney, who also voted for the master plan, says he’s seen town square concepts work in other places.

Also voting yes were Dave Ruesink, Julie Schultz, and Katy-Marie Lyles.

Mayor Nancy Berry abstained because she is on the board of College Station Medical Center.

Jess Fields voted no because the district, pending state legislative approval, will be managed by a council-appointed board that will have final authority.
