A Bryan man is in jail following his arrest after taking $701 and 34 lottery scratch-off tickets from a south Bryan convenience store.

Officer Jon Agnew says 43 year old LJ Young is accused of distracting a clerk working at the store on South Texas and Mary Lake.

Officers were told Young got the clerk to go outside to help a woman who wasn’t there. When the clerk returned, Young was still inside by the beer cooler at the back of the store. When the clerk called 911, Young left the store.

Agnew says Young was seen leaving a house about five blocks away on Sulphur Springs Road. Officers apprehended Young as he was trying to close the front door.

According to court records, Young was arrested in August for violating parole from past convictions in Brazos County and in New Mexico.
