Cancer Fundraiser for Ronnie Jackson
Featured Stories, News Monday, September 24th, 2012A somewhat unusual fundraiser has been set up to benefit Bryan’s Neighborhood and Youth Services Coordinator, Ronnie Jackson, after he was diagnosed with cancer in March.
Jackson’s wife, Kelli Levey, says he’s been a great sport, but it’s been very frustrating.
She says several friends put together a website to help them with chores around the home that they currently aren’t able to do, or even help them with their medicalĀ expenses through a PayPal account.
Levey says this type of fundraiser, as opposed to a chicken dinner where friends could come up and hug him, is much easier for him, because complications have severely damaged his eyesight.
She says that for a family which is so used to helping others, it feels very odd to be on the receiving end.
She says that the one good thing about the experience is that it’s shown them how many people care about them, and how meaningful helping others actually is to them.
She says people have taken their child places and visited Jackson, and it’s made them both aware of the blessings in their lives.
Levey says Jackson will undergo surgery on Thursday to restore vision in one of his eyes.
