Political Phone Scams On the Rise
Featured Stories, News Monday, September 17th, 2012The local Better Business Bureau has issued a warning to watch out for politically-disguised phone scams.
BBB President Bill McGuire says scammers will use all of the hot topics, such as healthcare, economic recovery, and unemployment, to try to get into your wallet.
He urges voters to exercise common sense; there won’t be a free cruise at the end of the survey, they don’t need a port fee, and no matter who the president is, he or she is not going to pay your utility bill.
McGuire says to refuse giving your social security, credit card, or banking information to anyone on the phone whom you have not called yourself.
He says the scams will probably continue up until the presidential election.
Bill McGuire visits with WTAW’s Scott DeLucia.
