CS Conference Center to Remain Closed Indefinitely

The College Station City Council isn’t ready to decide the temporary or long range future of the city’s conference center.

City Manager David Neeley asked the council about making temporary repairs, based on comments he’s heard from citizens who believed it was premature to close the center July 2.

Comments from David Neeley.

Mayor Nancy Berry was not opposed to the idea, but it would not be considered until a council retreat next January. Berry also said she didn’t want to spend money on temporary repairs unless it applied to a permanent fix.

Berry told Neeley, “I don’t want to put on a band-aid on it and have the band-aid cost a quarter of a million dollars, only to find out that if we’re actually going to do something we have to throw away the band-aid and we’ve lost a quarter million dollars.”

Comments from Mayor Nancy Berry.

During Thursday’s council workshop, Berry and three council members decided that the retreat would also include a discussion of the permanent fate of the center.
