Labor Day Field Fire Results In Safety Reminders

A brush fire Labor Day afternoon that was unattended for a short time resulted in threatening homes east of Bryan.

Precinct three volunteer fire chief Gerald Burnett reminds rural property owners to have someone on the scene with a water source.

Burnett says it’s not a requirement to give advance notice (by calling 979-361-3888) but it could prevent problems if the controlled fire becomes out of control.

Burnett says one of his volunteer firefighters was treated at the scene of Monday’s Riley Road fire for an eye injury caused by a hot ember.

Gerald Burnett visits with WTAW’s Bill Oliver.
