Bryan City Council Election Field Now Set

Monday was the last day to file for November’s local city-school elections in nearly all races.

The one exception was in Bryan, where the deadline was Thursday at 5 p.m. for the special election to fill the upcoming vacancy in single member district three (SMD 3).  City Secretary Mary Lynne Stratta reported no last minute candidates.  Steve Ramirez and Greg Owens previously filed.

The SMD 3 opening came about because Chuck Konderla moved out of the district.  Konderla is among three candidates for the council’s at-large seat.  Former mayor Lloyd Joyce and Rafael Rafa Pena are also interested in succeeding Mike Southerland, who is not eligible to run due to term limits.

And in SMD 5, incumbent Art Hughes is opposed by Craig Regan.
