Proposed Wal-Mart Grocery Store for Bryan

Bryan city officials say the paperwork is ready to sign to bring another Wal-Mart to town.

It’s not the proposed westside supercenter at West Villa Maria and Harvey Mitchell.

Planning Administrator Martin Zimmerman says it’s a grocery store in the Townshire Center at Texas and Carson.

Comments from Martin Zimmerman.

Zimmerman says the building permit calls for a $3.5 million dollar renovation involving more than 62,000 square feet.

Zimmerman says the space, formerly an Albertson’s and before that Sears, has been vacant about six years.

More from Martin Zimmerman.

The property owner or Wal-Mart is not receiving any economic development assistance, as opposed to the Houston developer who is eligible for up to five million in sales tax money for the westside store.
