Featured Stories, News Friday, August 17th, 2012Bryan Broadcasting Sports Director Tom Turbiville retired Friday afternoon, ending a 19 year stint with the company and nearly 30 years in Bryan/College Station.
Tom and his wife Judy are headed to Beatrice, Nebraska to start their next career as full-time grandparents.
Bryan Broadcasting hosted a farewell reception in the atrium of Crystal Park Plaza, allowing Tom to present his final sportscasts in front of a live audience he says for the only time in his career.
Aired live on News/Talk 1620 WTAW, the first hour of the reception allowed on-air tributes from representatives of causes and organizations close to Tom’s heart. That included military veterans and scores of non-profit organizations.

As I listened to WTAW this morning, there was a HUGE void without Tom’s recognizable voice after so many years. As a military retiree, I truly appreciate his dedication to recognizing veterans on the radio. Even though he has no idea who I am, I feel like I’ve known him for a long, long time. I will miss Tom’s humor, humility, and many years of athletics commentary. Know that you made a big difference in this community, sir. As we used to say in East Texas, “You done good.” Thanks.
