Opponents to Proposed Robertson County Rail Yard Organize

Opponents of a proposed Union Pacific rail yard in southwest Robertson County continue to organize.

Kathy Hubbard says the Brazos River Bottom Alliance includes a majority of landowners who own and rent the majority of farmland that would be affected by the 1,000 acre development. And she says they’ll fight the railroad’s pursuit of eminent domain.

Hubbard says the group wants a meeting with UP officials. Railroad spokeswoman Raquel Espinoza says that will happen after property is acquired.

Hubbard says she is in contact with at least 50 affected parties by e-mail, who in turn are distributing updates to others interested in preserving land used for farming and energy production.
