Consultant Hears From Businessowners About Losing Aggie Home Football Games
Featured Stories, News Thursday, July 12th, 2012An international consulting firm was in town Thursday learning from local businessowners the impact of losing Texas A&M University home football games if Kyle Field is closed for renovation.
Adam Sacks of Oxford Economics says in at least one respect it’s worse than the Gulf oil spill. Sacks says in addition to losing visitors, local fans will spend their game day money out of town.
Sacks says the Kyle Field economic loss would also be broader, affecting realtors, car dealerships, and other non-tourism based businesses.
Oxford was hired by the Chamber of Commerce and the Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Sacks says he was impressed with how interested and how engaged the local business community is to this issue.
A final report will be presented to university officials next month before a decision on addressing the future of the home football stadium.
Adam Sacks visits with WTAW’s Bill Oliver.
