Bryan Council Rejects Proposed Smartmeter ChangesFeatured Stories, News Thursday, May 17th, 2012
The Bryan City Council has shot down the idea of letting electric customers opt out of using recently installed smartmeters.
Mike Southerland was alone in supporting his proposal. He says the smartmeter request came from constituents and after learning at least one other utility company offers an option.
Mayor Jason Bienski asked Southerland who would pay for reading conventional electric meters.
Ann Horton was against Southerland’s call requiring BTU to get written permission before going on private property.
Chuck Konderla took offense to Southerland’s reference to the council being “compassionate dictators”.
The council also rejected a motion to refer Southerland’s proposal to the BTU board for further study.
