CS Reclaimed Water Facility Ready to Open
Featured Stories, News Friday, May 11th, 2012Protecting the investment in College Station’s city ballfields and preserving the city’s water supply are two reasons behind a new reclaimed water facility.
Water Resources Coordinator Jennifer Nations says the $3.3 million dollar operation will initially save 25 million gallons of drinking water a year.
Nations compares it to Kyle Field being under 57 feet of water or filling 250 million-12 ounce bottles of water.
Nations says College Station discharges 6 million gallons of wastewater each day. Up to 400,000 gallons of treated wastewater a day will be routed to Veterans Park to irrigate 14 ballfields. Nations says the future includes an extension to Central Park to water those fields.
A grand opening will be held Tuesday, May 15 at 10 a.m. at the Veterans Park American Pavillion. Nations says purple ribbon will be cut, noting purple pipe is used to transport the reclaimed water.
