Five New Principals Selected Monday by Bryan ISD Board

Five schools in the Bryan district will have new principals next year. The school board Monday unaminously approved two new hires and three transfers.

Superintendent Tommy Wallis says the new principal at Bryan High is Lamond Dean from the Chapel Hill district east of Tyler.

Dean succeeds Diana Werner, who is retiring. Werner is finishing her third year at Bryan High and before that was at Jane Long Middle School and Sul Ross Elementary.

Also leaving Bryan ISD is Milam Elementary principal Tracy Spies, who brought national attention to the district. Wallis says Spies is taking a teaching position at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas.

Transferring to Milam is Sam Houston principal Holly Scott. Transferring to Sam Houston is Sul Ross principal Holly Havemann. The new principal at Sul Ross will be Kristin Brunson, who joins Bryan ISD from Mexia. And Bryan High assistant principal Hugo Ibarra fills the vacancy at Navarro. A successor to Dr. Ibarra has not been announced.

Dr. Tommy Wallis visits with WTAW’s Bill Oliver.
