Feds: Parkland Hospital Threatens Patient Safety

DALLAS (AP) _ The federal government says Parkland Memorial Hospital doesn’t meet the requirements to participate in the Medicare program after a survey of the hospital found conditions that were a “serious threat” to patient safety.

The U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services said in a letter sent to Parkland Tuesday that if it doesn’t provide acceptable plans of correction by Aug. 20 and complete those plans by Aug. 24, they will no longer be part of the Medicare program as of Sept. 2.

CMS spokesman Bob Moos says violations relating to infection control and emergency care were so serious that “they triggered ‘immediate jeopardy’ status.”

Parkland officials say they take the allegations seriously and will do what it takes to make sure their Medicare program is not revoked.
