Thursday is when the official announcement is expected about personnel changes to President Obama’s national security team.
The changes include Ryan Crocker, the Dean of the A&M Bush School of Government, becoming the next U.S. Ambassador to Afghanistan.
Crocker has served at the Bush school since January of last year. His departure is one of several changes coming with the retirement of Defense Secretary Robert Gates. The former A&M President announced Wednesday he plans to retire June 30.
Multiple sources report CIA Director Leon Panetta will replace Gates and General David Petraeus will move from the the war in Afghanistan to running the CIA.
Crocker and Petraeus would be reunited after Crocker was Ambassador to Iraq when General Petraeus was in charge of the military.
Officials say Obama is expected to name Lt. Gen. John Allen to replace Petraeus as Afghanistan commander.
All the appointments are subject to Senate confirmation.
