College Station Recall Signatures Submitted

We may know by the end of the week if three members of the College Station City Council will choose to resign or face a recall election.

Monday morning, the City Secretary’s office received over 6,200 signatures gathered by the committee that initially sought to remove five council members.

Signatures were not submitted for John Crompton and Dennis Maloney, whose terms expires in May. Crompton cannot run for re-election and Maloney has previously announced not seeking a second term.

According to  city officials, the recall group collected 2,119 signatures on Mayor Nancy Berry. The minimum number for verification is 1,553.

For Councilwoman Katy Marie Lyles, 2,078 signatures were submitted and 1,262 are required to be verified.

For Councilman Dave Ruesink, 2,077 signatures were submitted and 1,160 are required to be verified.

At least four employees in the City Secretary’s office will be verifying signatures with a goal of completing the effort by Friday.

Whenever counting is completed, any councilmember who is told the required number of signatures was met has five days to resign.

For those who don’t resign, a special council meeting will be called to set a date for a recall election.
