A&M Budget Updates
News Wednesday, December 15th, 2010
Texas A&M University President Bowen Loftin has responded to the latest round of spending cuts ordered by state leaders.
The Legislative Budget Board called on all state agencies to take out another 2.5 percent from the current budget year that ends next August. At A&M that means finding another $6.5 million dollars.
In his weekly update, Dr. Loftin says he will not be asking for additional reductions other than what has been previously directed. The President says absorbing that loss will be done in part through efforts already underway.
In another budget-related item at A&M, interim Provost Karan Watson has announced 104 tenured faculty will be leaving through the voluntary separation program. Dr. Watson says that will save $15 million dollars in upcoming years.
